Robert Mugabe, the President of Zimbabwe, has replaced Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, as the Chairman of the African Union. 90-year-old Mugabe, on Friday, January 30, was elected as Chairman of the union at the AU summit in Addis Abbaba. Mugabe thanked African leaders for electing him, saying: “By electing me to preside over this august body, with full knowledge of the onerous responsibility that lies ahead, I humbly accept your collective decision.” Mugabe was a former guerrilla leader who has been the President of his country since it gained independence in 1980.

Pa Okoye, the father of the P square is today being laid to rest in Anambra and his sons are performing the necessary burial rites – one of which involved the twin brothers dance out with their wives. I read a whole lot of comments yesterday regarding the Major General Muhammadu Buhari boycott of the Presidential debate organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group, NEDG by Mr Doyin Okupe and some other GEJ supporters. Today, so many people supported the decision of Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to boycott the debate. The Buhari Campaign Organisation had on Thursday announced that Buhari would boycott the debate, citing the lack of integrity of members of the group. It also said Buhari would agree to participate in any debate organised by a body seen to be neutral and that would not end up being biased. Lagosians are always exceptional in whatever they do, today, tens of thousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, took Lagos by storm as they defied the early morning shower to show their support to the presidential candidate of the party, General Muhammadu Buhari and his running mate, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. Venue of the rally, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, witnessed an extraordinary crowd of party faithful from all walks of life. Members of the party across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas, political office holders, candidates in the forthcoming February elections among others stormed the venue of the rally.
