THE FOOLISH OF GALATIANS

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. This was the letter Apostle Paul wrote to the people of Galatians some hundreds of years ago. I am going to replace in this write up the Galatians with the Nigeria Governments and Political leaders across board. I have been wondering why our leaders so shameless, If any one of them is sick or having ordinary headache the next thing is to travel abroad for treatment. I heard recently that the formal governor of Lagos Asiwaju Bola hammed Tinubu just came back from Abroad where he went to have a surgery, Formal president Alhaji Umoru Yar’adua was flee abroad when he was sick the and so many others. The question I want to ask is, Is it not the government of those countries they traveled to for treatment that put necessary equipment in place to make their health sector what our leader can access? If a president of a country cannot be treated in his country, it means...

NIGERIA @ 53: WHO IS BAD, GOVERNMENT OR NIGERIANS?

It has become part of every Nigerian to blame the government for anything that is not right in this country, every day, people keep saying the Government is bad. I could remember a musician by name Africa China; channel one of his songs toward this same line. According to him ‘our government baaad ooo, dem no wan give ghetto man Jooob ooo, Oh my God oooo…’ Is our government bad? This is a question that needs an urgent answer from every citizen of this country. No doubt about it Government is an institution of the state empowered with the power and authority to make an enforce law and order within the state. It is the duty of government to provide basic infrastructural facilities such as good Roads, Electricity, Portable water, Security of life and Properties etc to enhance the standard of living of her citizens. However, it is the duty of every citizen to make sure he/she safeguards what the government made available with tax payers money. My concern is that Nigeria is 53 yea...

GOING BACK TO THE ROOT; THE IRONY OF INDECENT DRESSING

Image
The result of Indecent dressing My curiosity about the movement of the world brought about this topic and the entire article. In the early 80s when I was still very young, the kind of dress people wore were quiet different to what I see them put on this days. The mode of dressing in vogue is seen by religionists and moralists as indecent and has been seriously preached against. Indecent dressing is defined by a scholar as a social malady that ridicules the person and is likely to shock or offend people. It exposes parts of the body, usually sexual organs, which normally should be covered. A decent dressing on the other hand elicits respect and protects the person’s dignity. The Indecent dressing in this part of the world was said to be copied from the western culture, because it was never part of the African culture. Though I have not been to America or Europe to know how they dress over there, but I have seen on Television times without number. Hardly will you see a w...

PLACE IMPORTANCE

Where you are as an individual determine what grow within you, which in return determine your success. Let me ask you; are you at the right place?  Only five out of hundred can say yes to this question.  The rate of unemployment in the country has or is about to change what has been pre-destined for most people in this part of the world.  A good and talented mechanical  engineer who is suppose to be where he can use his talent to invent something that will benefit our generation find himself in a bank or private security company where his God given talent and acquired experience is useless . What a pity! The importance of place is overlooked, underestimated, and insufficiently acted upon. Living in the wrong place is a self-inflicted life handicap. Living in one's right place is the foundation of a fulfilling life. And for each of us, there is an ideal place.  The late poet Robert Creeley once said, ‘The necessary environment is that which secures the arti...

Nigeria, Boko Haram and Amnesty

Reading they say delightfully refresh the mind. I never thought of writing this piece until I read the piece written by a father and mentor Femi Adesina on the 26 th of April Tiltled “ I could Have been a suicide Bomber”. No doubt, the piece is an interesting and educating one. Here are some interesting part of the write up….” In short, where you are born is some sort of biological accident, as you have nothing to do with it. I was born to a father who was a school principal, and mother who was also a schoolteacher. So, I had no choice than to go to school, and very early too. At nine years old, I was out of primary school, out of secondary by 14, and a graduate at 20. But nothing to gloat about. These were all due to biological accident, as I didn’t choose the family to be born into. I could have been son to a shoeless fisherman in Otuoke, a cattle rearer in Daura, or a subsistence farmer in Barkin-Ladi. No man chooses the family, or the environment into which he is born....

THATCHERISM

Image
Thatcherism is the philosophy of the former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. It describes the conviction politics, economic and social policy, and political style of the British Conservative politician. Margaret Thatcher, who was leader of her party from 1975 to 1990. It has also been used by some [who?] to describe the beliefs of the British government while Thatcher was Prime Minister between May 1979 and November 1990, and beyond into the governments of John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and David Cameron. British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher Thatcherism claims to promote low inflation, the small state and free markets through tight control of the money supply , privatisation and constraints on the labour movement. It is often compared with Reaganomics in the United States, Rogernomics in New Zealand and Economic Rationalism in Australia as a key part of the worldwide neoliberal movement. Nigel Lawson , Thatcher's Chancellor of the Exchequer from...

Nigeria: Soyinka Tasks Yoruba On Culture, Language

Ibadan — Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka has tasked all Yoruba stakeholders to be more committed to the preservation of Yoruba culture, language and monuments for posterity. Speaking at the inauguration of Odu'a Hall of Fame and Museum in Ibadan yesterday, Professor Soyinka said things went wrong at some point for the Yoruba as well as the entire country with the neglect of the people's heritage and monuments. Soyinka emphasized the need to right the wrongs, saying "with this initiative (hall and museum), I see the beginning of Yoruba technology. I am happy that appeal had been made earlier on the need to develop our culture." "There is one negative aspect, not just Ibadan, not just the South-West, but the country and its institutions just went into downward spin, including the Premier University (University of ibadan)", he said. Also speaking, a foremost writer, Professor Akinwunmi Ishola, advocated the promotion of the culture of 'omoluabi' ...
