REGIONALISM OR NOTHING

As a Philosopher, I was thought during my undergraduate days in Political philosophy that, ‘ regionalism is a political ideology that focuses on the interests of a particular region or group of regions, whether traditional or formal. Regionalists aim at increasing their region's influence and political power , either through movements for limited form of autonomy ( decentralization , states' rights , devolution ) or through stronger measures for a greater degree of autonomy ( sovereignty , separatism , independence ). Regionalists often favor loose federations or confederations over a unitary state with a strong central government . Proponents of regionalism usually say that strengthening a region's governing bodies and political powers within a larger country would promote fiscal responsibility , develop a more rational allocation of the region's resources for the benefit of the local populations, increase the efficient implementation of local plans, raise c...

WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH…

When the going gets tough, the tough get going is a play on words involving idiomatic (Proverb) and distinct meanings of "go" and "tough." In context, "the going" means the situation, "gets tough" means to become difficult. “The tough” means people who are strong or enduring, and "get going" means to become fully engaged. Taken together, the meaning of the phrase is when the situation becomes difficult; the strong will work harder to meet the challenge. Another interpretation could mean those who act tough and proud will vacate a situation when it becomes difficult lest they be proven not as tough as they appear to be. Yet another interpretation could mean, when the situation becomes almost impossible, those who are truly strong are wise enough to pull out, rather than being totally decimated. The origin of the phrase has been attributed both to Joseph P. Kennedy (1888–1969),[1] father of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, and so...

THE FOOLISH OF GALATIANS

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. This was the letter Apostle Paul wrote to the people of Galatians some hundreds of years ago. I am going to replace in this write up the Galatians with the Nigeria Governments and Political leaders across board. I have been wondering why our leaders so shameless, If any one of them is sick or having ordinary headache the next thing is to travel abroad for treatment. I heard recently that the formal governor of Lagos Asiwaju Bola hammed Tinubu just came back from Abroad where he went to have a surgery, Formal president Alhaji Umoru Yar’adua was flee abroad when he was sick the and so many others. The question I want to ask is, Is it not the government of those countries they traveled to for treatment that put necessary equipment in place to make their health sector what our leader can access? If a president of a country cannot be treated in his country, it means...

NIGERIA @ 53: WHO IS BAD, GOVERNMENT OR NIGERIANS?

It has become part of every Nigerian to blame the government for anything that is not right in this country, every day, people keep saying the Government is bad. I could remember a musician by name Africa China; channel one of his songs toward this same line. According to him ‘our government baaad ooo, dem no wan give ghetto man Jooob ooo, Oh my God oooo…’ Is our government bad? This is a question that needs an urgent answer from every citizen of this country. No doubt about it Government is an institution of the state empowered with the power and authority to make an enforce law and order within the state. It is the duty of government to provide basic infrastructural facilities such as good Roads, Electricity, Portable water, Security of life and Properties etc to enhance the standard of living of her citizens. However, it is the duty of every citizen to make sure he/she safeguards what the government made available with tax payers money. My concern is that Nigeria is 53 yea...

GOING BACK TO THE ROOT; THE IRONY OF INDECENT DRESSING

Image
The result of Indecent dressing My curiosity about the movement of the world brought about this topic and the entire article. In the early 80s when I was still very young, the kind of dress people wore were quiet different to what I see them put on this days. The mode of dressing in vogue is seen by religionists and moralists as indecent and has been seriously preached against. Indecent dressing is defined by a scholar as a social malady that ridicules the person and is likely to shock or offend people. It exposes parts of the body, usually sexual organs, which normally should be covered. A decent dressing on the other hand elicits respect and protects the person’s dignity. The Indecent dressing in this part of the world was said to be copied from the western culture, because it was never part of the African culture. Though I have not been to America or Europe to know how they dress over there, but I have seen on Television times without number. Hardly will you see a w...

PLACE IMPORTANCE

Where you are as an individual determine what grow within you, which in return determine your success. Let me ask you; are you at the right place?  Only five out of hundred can say yes to this question.  The rate of unemployment in the country has or is about to change what has been pre-destined for most people in this part of the world.  A good and talented mechanical  engineer who is suppose to be where he can use his talent to invent something that will benefit our generation find himself in a bank or private security company where his God given talent and acquired experience is useless . What a pity! The importance of place is overlooked, underestimated, and insufficiently acted upon. Living in the wrong place is a self-inflicted life handicap. Living in one's right place is the foundation of a fulfilling life. And for each of us, there is an ideal place.  The late poet Robert Creeley once said, ‘The necessary environment is that which secures the arti...
